: I would appreciate receiving recommendation on the nitriding processes of the die casting forms (moulds). How do the different nitriding processes (liquid, gas, plasma) affect the start and developing of heat checking network?

The nitriding network depends on the material and will be formed mainly by the
influence of: temperature, time and nitriding potential.
Salt: high temp (>560°C), high nitriding potential: strong network. no flexibility of
modification, only by time variation.
gas: medium high temp.( > 500°C), varable nitriding potential, usually long treatment
time: medium/strong network. limited flexibility of modification.
plasma: wide temp.range for treatment ( > 300°C), very varable nitriding potential,
usually treatment time shorter compared to gas process: low/ medium/strong
network. high flexibility of modification.

For further comments more details like material, geometry of parts, required results
will be helpful.

Best regards, Dr. Reinar Gruen
