Dear reader.
We developed a device for in vivo measurement of the mechanical properties of soft human tissue (basic research, no commercial interest / application). Up to now we could sterilize our device with EO-gas (ethylen-oxide). But in the near future EO-gas is no longer available in Europe - sterilization of thermolabile instrumentation has to be changed to Plasma. In Zurich the available plasma sterilizer is the Sterrad 200 by Johnson and Johnson. Procedure takes place at almost vacuum and maximum temperature specified is around 55°C.
Now the problem: when we sterilized our device in plasma, which was up to now sterilized with EO, we got problems with the adhesives / glues used for optical parts for instance. Basically the device could be disassembled easily after one sterilization cycle only. Is there anybody out there familiar with this problem? Suggestions for the glues to be used? Compatibility of Araldit / Epoxy adhesives with plasma? Experience?
Thank you very much for your input and tips!!
Best, Marc
